When Lyle lands, his handsome feathers fly out

Catching the air like a wind anchor, his wings brake his flight and he lands.

It’s time for Lyle the Little Blue Heron to pay us a visit, investigating the feeding possibilities in our neck of the salt marsh!

At moments such as these, pitting his wings against his own momentum, he seems a bit stronger than Great Egrets who visit, although his name starts with “Little.”

His feeding habits are sort of a hybrid twixt Great Blue Heron and Great Egret —sometimes standing patiently like a spear fisherman, and other moments, stalking and darting opportunistically.

I wish he’d stay all day, so I could photograph more poses, but right now I’m just happy to behold our friend once more.
