How many times have you watched a bird through the branches of a tree? That’s no accident, but the bird’s way of protecting itself from a predator—in the case of a Canada Goose, sometimes a human predator.

Thinking about birds in flight, I realize much of the time I’m seeing them through the branches of a tree…

Which I’m guessing is by design—not mine, but the bird’s. If you’re a bird, even a largish Canada Goose, survival can depend upon putting something solid between you and a human predator, yes? Hence this shot.
