Serenity Skims!

Snowy Egret in flight over a salt marsh

Flirting with the marsh pond surface, Serenity soars and dips her golden toes in the water to flush out prey. I can’t think of a more beautiful angler in all of nature than a Snowy Egret in mating season.

Snowy Egrets have the prettiest fishing strategy I’ve seen on the salt marsh, and perhaps in all of my experience photographing wading and water birds…

Serenity soars low and slow over salt marsh pools, skimming her golden feet just below the surface, flushing out the minnows, crustaceans and other delicacies that sustain her. I regret she didn’t stay long enough for many photo ops on our most recent salt marsh sojourn, but we do see Egrets now and again elsewhere. 🤞 Fingers crossed!
