Ready to launch?

Half my life shooting birds is spent taking photos of a creature seemingly getting ready to fly, then…

Not. Which is exactly what happened here. Egbert the Great Egret  craned forward and opened his wings halfway…

Then just shrugged and walked a bit forward to select some delicacy that beckoned from the mushy grasses.

But doesn’t it look here as if he’ll be in the air in the next split-second? I’m asking honestly, because it would make my job less frustrating to see the signs of a simple shrug.
