“Innocent ingenue baby
Say if I fell for you, baby
Would you not love me too, baby
Too?”
Ira Gershwin
Little Carlene Cardinal is trembling on the brink of womanhood. Her first adult feathers —beautiful golden feathers —are growing in, and her dark baby bill is growing out, to be replaced by the red bill of a lady Northern Cardinal. And look at that darling, delicate whisp of a Northern Cardinal crest!
Best of all, she was willing to smile for the camera, making her a true screen ingenue.
Below are a few of her sisters. It appears to be that time of year, when the first crop of baby birds grows up.
