Woodrow the Red-Bellied Woodpecker is Back!

Detail of head, Red-Bellied Woodpecker

First, I’d like to thank him for lingering long enough for me to put his eye in focus. And second…

I’d like to call your attention to the yellowing bristles around his beak! These aren’t just the woodpecker equivalent of whiskers (although Woodrow is, I believe, male) but actually function to keep chips and sawdust out of his respiratory apparatus.

Finally, notice the sunflower meat in his beak. Woodrow’s gourmet  palate apparently hasn’t changed.

Woodrow is such a handsome and sweet fellow that I warmly recommend him as a friend. Just LIKE and leave a GREETING and I’ll pass it on.
